Did you know that there is a clear link between
school attendance and attainment?
A missed school day is a lost opportunity for learning.
For our children to gain the greatest benefit from their education it is vital that they attend school regularly. All children should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.
At Redlands, in addition to delivering fun and interesting lessons, we use a range of rewards and incentives to help to make sure our attendance remains high:
- Weekly: Each week the classes with the highest attendance in the key stage are awarded the attendance bears.
- Termly: All of our pupils achieving 100% attendance are invited to an attendance award party at the end of each term.
- Anually: At the end of the year, all of our 100% attenders are invited to take part in a special reward trip.
Please note holidays will not usually be authorised in term time. However, if parents feel that there are exceptional circumstances for the holiday then they must provide a letter addressed to the Head Teacher explaining their reasons. The Head Teacher makes the decision as to whether or not the holiday will be authorised by the school. If the holiday is unauthorised by the Head Teacher then a penalty notice may be issued – this will be dependent on your child’s rolling attendance. If your child’s rolling attendance is 96% or higher than a penalty notice will not be issued. However, the holiday will be unauthorised. If your child’s rolling attendance is below 96% then the absence will be unauthorised and a penalty notice will be issued. If you do choose to take your child out of school, you must complete a leave of absence form as soon as possible and at least four weeks in advance of the planned absence. Leave of absence forms are available from the school office or by clicking here.
If you are at all worried about your child’s attendance, please contact the school office to make an appointment with a member of our attendance team. We are here to help!
