Physical Education
Physical Education and Sport at Redlands
At Redlands Primary and Nursery School, we are passionate about sport. Every year, we provide a broad, inclusive and exciting physical education curriculum alongside opportunities for pupils to take part in extracurricular clubs, leadership roles, and inter-school competition. Our goal is to help every child develop physical confidence, resilience, and a lifelong enjoyment of being active.
Our PE Curriculum
Children at Redlands take part in at least two hours of physical education each week. We use the Complete PE scheme to ensure that every lesson builds on the last, with clear progression from Reception to Year 6.
Each year, pupils develop a wide range of skills through activities such as football, basketball, tag rugby, volleyball, dance, gymnastics, rounders, athletics and outdoor adventurous activities. Lessons are fun, inclusive, and carefully adapted to support and challenge all children.
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities
We run an extensive range of after-school clubs, including football, cricket, table tennis, athletics, hockey, multi-skills, gymnastics, netball and Basketball.
These clubs provide fun, varied, and inclusive opportunities for all children, whatever their ability or experience.
Football at Redlands
Football is a cornerstone of our school sport provision. We have both boys’ and girls’ football teams, with the girls’ team proudly winning their league this year. Football clubs run throughout the year, with different year groups given opportunities to take part on a rotating basis. This inclusive approach helps develop skills and passion for the game across the whole school.
Sports Crew
Our Sports Crew play an important role in promoting activity and leadership. They run popular activities like football, tennis, basketball, hockey, and volleyball at break and lunch times, encouraging all children to stay active and engaged throughout the school day.
In addition, our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) lunchtime scheme offers a rich variety of outdoor activities that keep children moving, creative, and social during their breaks.
School Games Participation
Redlands is an active member of the School Games programme, taking part in a wide range of events and competitions each year. These include football tournaments, table tennis fixtures, athletics meets, netball events, the Jingle Jog and more.
We are incredibly proud to have achieved the School Games Gold Award, which recognises our commitment to participation, competition, leadership and inclusion in school sport.
PE Kit Expectations
To take part safely and comfortably in PE, all children are expected to wear the correct kit. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately on PE days:
• White t-shirt
• Black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms
• Sensible trainers suitable for sport (no sandals, slip-ons or boots)
• Dark-coloured hoodie or school jumper for colder weather
• No earrings – Children must remove earrings themselves before PE. Staff are not permitted to remove or replace them, so we recommend leaving them at home on PE days.
